The Greene County Extension Council recently elected a new set of officers for 2018. At their first meeting of the year on January 10th, the Council chose Bob Smith of Jefferson to serve as the Council Chair. He will preside over all Council meetings, have the ability to call special meetings and perform and exercise duties by a chairperson of a board of directors for a company. Guthrie County Extension Continuing Applicator Training Sessions

Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will be hosting another applicator training session on Thursday, February 1st. Private Pesticide Applicator Training (PPAT) will take place from 1:30-6:30pm at the Guthrie Activity Center. The fee is $20. Each year the class allows a license holder to renew their license. They can be purchased at the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office located at 201 Nile Kinnick Drive North in Adel from the hours of 8:00-4:00. Proceeds from the sale will go the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Benevolent.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released Class 1A and 2A boys’ basketball district tournament assignments Friday. Greene County has been assigned to Class 2A District 15 and Paton-Churdan will play in District 15 in 1A. Coach Chris Nelson’s Rams are grouped with five other teams, all of which are members of the West Central Activities Conference. Greene County is in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Representative Baltimore Arrested for OWI

An Iowa Representative was recently arrested for an OWI. Sources say District 47 Representative Chip Baltimore was arrested early Friday morning by the Ames Police Department. Online court records show that an officer pulled Baltimore’s vehicle over, after allegedly observing it swerving in his lane, just as his vehicle exited onto Highway 30. Sources say Baltimore submitted to a breathalyzer test in which his blood alcohol content was 0.147-percent, almost double the legal limit of 0.08-percent. Baltimore also told the […]

After more than a month without competition, the Greene County High School wrestlers were back in action on Thursday night in Alleman. Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams went 2-1 in three dual meets to improve 7-9 on the season. Greene County started the night with a 42-39 victory over non-conference opponent West Central Valley.
