The 2017 Adult Summer Reading Program will conclude with a finale party, at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, in the library large meeting room. Special guests will be the Calderon’s from El Tren, who will demonstrate how to make Mexican Tacos. All of the adult participants of the 2017 summer reading program are invited to eat tacos at the final event. Drawings for Prizes will be held during the evening.
The Masonic Lodge of Guthrie Center will host a fundraising breakfast today, with eggs, ham, pancakes and drinks. All proceeds will go toward the AC/GC High School Scholarship Fund. Cost is a free-will donation. The breakfast will be held from 7 am to 1 pm at the Guthrie Activity Center in downtown Guthrie Center. The Nu Alpha Gamma Chapter of Dallas County will offer two $500 Scholarships to Students who will be College Juniors or Seniors this fall, and are majoring in education. The 20th Annual Guthrie County Southern Gospel Sing will be held today, August 4th, from 3 pm to 8:30 pm and tomorrow August 5th, from 10 am to 7:30 pm at the Guthrie County Fairgrounds Event Center in Guthrie Center. There will be special appearances by those who have performed at the sing during the last 2 decades. Seating is available or you can bring your own lawn chairs. The Panora Church of The Brethren will sponsor a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday August 5, from 7:00 am-5:00 pm at the Panora Community Center. The Granger Knights Of Columbus will hold a Hot Rods and Hogs Car, Motorcycle Show and Hog Roast on Saturday August 5th from 10:00am-2:00pm at Centennial Park in Granger. The Menlo Library Foundation is having a Vendor Fair and Inflatables Fundraiser today from 11 am to 5 pm at the Menlo Community Building and Park. $8 advance wristbands for unlimited inflatables use can be purchased at the Menlo Library or from Mandi Sargent or Cindy Partlow. Wristbands will be $10 the day of the event and tickets will be $1. There will also be a silent auction, food, DJ and face painting. The Menlo Library Foundation is a nonprofit organization and donations are tax deductable. All proceeds go the Menlo Library.
The 2nd Annual – Panorama Days and Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament, Sunday, August 6. Registration 12:30 p,m, with a Shotgun start, 1:00 p.m. at the Panorama West Golf Course. This is a Four person best shot, and you do not have to be an alumni to play. Cost is $40 per person or $160 per team, which includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart, and prizes. The Trent Minor Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Sunday. August 13th. There will be a 9 Hole Alternate Shot for Parents & kids 13 and younger at 9:00 am. John Palmer served with the 51st Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War, and later moved to Bayard. He was the Last Union Civil War Veteran in Guthrie County. A dedication ceremony for a marker to be placed at John Palmer’s grave in the Highland Cemetery near Bayard will be held on Saturday, August 26th at 1:30 pm. The ceremony will be carried out by members of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in period uniform.
