bridge accident pic 2A Bagley man involved in a one-vehicle bridge accident south of Jefferson last month has been charged by the Iowa State Patrol.

Trooper Kevin Leffler says 29 year-old Levi Dawson has been charged with failure to maintain control after his 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer went off the road and into an embankment at the North Raccoon River bridge on Iowa Highway 4 just south of Jefferson on June 23rd.

Leffler states that Dawson reportedly fell asleep when the accident happened.

Authorities limited traffic to one lane on the bridge while they were handling the scene and Life Flight was called in to transport the victim to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines with non-life threatening injuries.

Since then, Dawson has been released and is recovering from his injuries.

Leffler suggests that you should always pay attention when you’re driving and to not be a distracted driver.  If you feel tired and are on a two-lane highway, Leffler recommends pulling into a nearby town so that you don’t become a hazard on the highway by pulling off to the shoulder.
