A Dallas County District Court Judge declared a mistrial of an Elkhart man who is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl almost ten years ago in Perry.

Multiple reports are saying that a second mistrial has been declared for 55-year-old Mark Gordon Parmenter in Dallas County District Court. Parmenter is facing two Class C Felonies for assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, but the judge declared a mistrial due to pretrial filing from a testimony, a witness had discussed in-court matters that were supposed to be excluded. Multiple reports show that the first mistrial for Parmenter came in October of 2018 when a juror was excused for a work-related issue.

Parmenter is accused of sexually assaulting a girl, who was then under the age of 18, in June and July of 2010. Mark’s son Eric Parmenter was sentenced in September of 2018 to ten years in prison after a jury found him guilty of two felony sex abuse charges. He is a registered sex offender and maintain a no-contact order with the victim. Court records show Eric sexually abused the same victim between 2008 and 2010, with all incidents taking place in Perry.

Online court records show that a new jury selection is underway for Mark’s jury trial, but a trial date has not been set. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
