Perry senior Gabbie West will continue her softball career next year at Iowa Lakes Community College. The senior plans on continuing to play catcher for the Lakers at the National Junior College ranks. As reported on Raccoon Valley Radio Friday, West signed her national letter of intent in front of family and friends inside the Brady Library. West is coming off a season in which he hit above 270 and was one of the main leaders on a young Perry softball team last season.
“I’m really excited for the opportunity to continue to play softball for Iowa Lakes,” smiled the hard nosed catcher. “I really enjoyed the family atmosphere that the coaches provide with the team. I also like the fact that it is a small college because I am more comfortable with the smaller settings just like Perry.”
West is a four sport athlete at Perry high school and is anxious for her final summer wearing the Perry blue. “There have been so many wonderful memories through the years. I think the highlight for me was a couple of summers ago when we traveled to Decorah as a team and spent the night in the dorms and played in a weekend tournament. It was so much fun.”
Perry head coach Tina Lutterman has seen a steady dose of her softball players sign letters of intent to play at the next level.
“I think its a credit to the players who put in the necessary time to become a college softball player. I feel our program has grown the past few seasons and these signings are a validation of all of the hard work we have put in.”
