Panorama head wrestling coach Jason Kirtley admits he pays little attention to his wrestlers in season career accomplishments on the mat. “As a coach, I don’t keep track of (a wrestler’s overall win total),” Kirtley said, ” More because I’m worried about the destination than what we’ve compiled over our entire career.”

For example, Kirtley has relied on former athletes letting him know when they’re close to their 100th career varsity victory. He shared with Raccoon Valley Radio on Monday’s Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page that he didn’t know his son, senior Noah Kirtley, was apart of Panorama’s 100 win club until during this past weekend’s Crusader Invitational. “We didn’t really know until that day (that Noah was apart of the 100 win club) so we didn’t have any (celebration) ready,” Kirtley said, “He’s sitting at 110 wins (currently) and is looking to crack the top five in all-time wins, and I’m proud of him for that, but I think he’d be a lot happier if he had a piece of hardware from state. It would probably mean a lot more to him.”

Kirtley is looking for his first trip to Wells Fargo Arena as a state-qualifying wrestler next month. The Panorama Panthers varsity wrestling team resumes their dual season tonight in a quadrangular event against East Union, Martensdale-St Marys, and Southwest Valley. First matches start around 5:30 p.m. from Martensdale-St Marys High School.
