acgcThe ACGC basketball teams opened a new year Friday night as they welcomed the Woodward-Granger Hawks to Guthrie Center. Unfortunately for the Chargers, the Hawks spoiled the party as they took both girls and boys games.

The girls game was close from the tip. The two teams exchanged the lead ten times and neither side was never ahead by more than six points. The Chargers held a one point advantage after the first two quarters while the Hawks had the same margin after the third. The Chargers were down one with eleven seconds remaining, but Kennedy Young’s mid-range jumper was blocked to give the Hawks a 32-30 victory. Freshman Emma Anderson led all Hawks with 13 points while Jadeyn Carrick led all Chargers with eight. The 30 points matches the Chargers’ lowest output of the season, with Young making the lone three for both teams combined.

As for the boys, the Hawks got out to an early 10-0 lead and never looked back. After taking an 11 point lead into the locker room, the visiting team allowed the Chargers to claw back to within four. But Woodward-Granger senior Noah Hoyt and junior Keith Braunschweig nailed some clutch three-pointers down the stretch to pull away, 68-48. Hoyt led all scores with 18 while Bryce Littler once again led all Chargers with 15. In hitting the double-digit mark, Littler tied Colton Sargent’s record of eight consecutive games with at least ten points scored.

The girls fall to 6-5 (4-4) while the boys drop to 4-6 (2-6). They’ll look to bounce back this afternoon with a non-conference doubleheader against Exira-EHK. The girls game tips at 3pm with the boys to follow from Guthrie Center.
