A former Jefferson teen is warranted for attempted murder in Ames.

The Ames Police Department is looking for an 18-year-old suspect they say shot a female victim in the chest inside a residence in the 100 block of South Russell Avenue. Officers responded to the call from Mary Greeley Medical Center around 4:16pm on Saturday. The victim and a witness gave statements to the officers and the victim is in stable condition. Police have identified the suspect as Rodney Dean Halterman. He is charged with a Class B Felony for attempted murder.

Halterman is also facing multiple felonies in Greene County including distribution of a controlled substance to a person under the age of 18, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and failure to affix a tax stamp, along with misdemeanors for fourth degree theft and possession of drug paraphernalia in two incidents.

A warrant for Halterman’s arrest for the attempted murder incident in Ames has been issued.
