It’s not often that a gravel road has a posted speed limit, but there’s now an exception as the City of Adel and Dallas County approved a speed limit for Meadow Road.

The gravel stretch of the road between Highway 169 and South 15th Street on the south side of Adel was given a speed limit of 35-miles-per-hour, which was approved by the Adel City Council and the Dallas County Board of Supervisors. The road runs along the City limits of Adel, so half of it is in the City and the other half is in the County, which is why the speed limit needed to be approved by both entities. The City has said they are considering paving that portion of Meadow Road, so posting a speed limit on it became more of a necessity.

To get an idea of what that limit needed to be, they performed a speed study with the help of the Dallas County Secondary Roads Department. Through the study, they found that 85% of motorists on the road travelled between 35-40-miles-per-hour, so setting the speed limit at 35 seemed logical. The limit is now in place, with the paving of Meadow Road likely to happen some time in 2019.
