The top two teams in the Raccoon River Conference girls basketball standings will square off tonight in Huxley with sole possession of first place on the line. The Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers tangle with the Ballard Bombers in their final regular-season meeting this winter. Both squads bring 6-1 league records into the matchup; ADM handed Ballard their only conference setback, 52-48, in overtime on November 30 in Adel. The Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays gave ADM their only league loss on January 4, 68-56, in Bondurant. ADM head girls basketball coach Jacob Cleveland spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio after the Tigers’ 52-51 setback against Dallas Center-Grimes Tuesday, and he said taking care of the ball is vital if ADM wants a chance at sweeping the Bombers. “We have above 20 turnovers again (versus DCG),” Cleveland said, “You won’t beat good teams if you turn the ball over that much. Most of the turnovers are preventative, so we have to work on our footwork.”

The Ballard Bombers have won 10 of their last 11 regular season games since their loss in Adel. The Bombers only setback in that time came against Class 3A No. 1 North Polk in Alleman, 46-39. The Bombers possess balanced scoring with four players averaging nine or more points this winter. Ballard tops the Raccoon River Conference with 191 assists and 215 steals. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network will provide live play by play coverage of tonight’s Raccoon River Conference doubleheader between ADM and Ballard on True Country K 107.9. Pregame comments start around 5:30 p.m., the girls game tips off around 6 p.m. and the boys’ contest will follow.
