acgcFor the first time in ACGC girls basketball history, the Chargers have collected a season sweep of a singular opponent. The Chargers bested the Madrid Tigers 54-42 in a West Central Activities Conference matchup Tuesday night.

The two teams played a tightly contested game in the first half, exchanging the lead four times and recording four ties after the opening tip. The Chargers would have the 26-23 edge going into the half and never looked back. The gold and black took advantage of several careless Tiger turnovers to outscore the home squad 28-19 in the second half. Sophomore Kylie Young led all Chargers with a career high 17 points while Genevieve Hoover dropped in her 25th career three-pointer in the first half. Madrid senior Sarah Eagleton led all scores with 18.

On the boys side, Madrid once again took the advantage in the second quarter and never looked back as they cruised to a 78-56 victory. Junior Braden Gibbons once again led all scores with 21 points. Senior Devin Fuson and junior Jacob Loew also contributed a combined 26 points for the Tigers. Bryce Littler once again led all Chargers with 13 points while sophomore Lucas Marsh recorded a career high 12 in the setback.

With Earlham’s loss last night to Des Moines Christian, the ACGC girls move up to 4th place in the conference standings. The girls are now 7-6 overall and 5-4 in conference play. The boys drop to 4-8 overall and 2-7 in the conference. Both teams will head to Pleasantville on Friday for a conference double with the Trojans.
