It’s mid-season or just past it for basketball teams who are members of the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The league has three girls’ teams and two boys’ teams ranked among the top teams in their respective classes, to go along with several other very competitive teams.

The North Polk (Alleman) girls are rated first among Class 3A teams, while Roland-Story (Story City) is number 11 in 3A and Gilbert is ranked number 11 in 4A. North Polk is unbeaten in conference play.

The Gilbert boys are also undefeated in the HOIAC and they have two losses overall. The Tigers are ranked sixth in 3A. The South Hamilton (Jewell) boys have dropped just one conference game, to Gilbert, and the Hawks are ranked fifth in 2A.

The Greene County teams are part of the Heart of Iowa Conference, and have not had a lot of success so far this season. The Rams are 3-5 in boys’ conference games and 5-7 overall. The girls are 0-8 in the league and 0-11 overall.

The Rams host Winterset tonight in the middle school gym in Jefferson in a non-conference girl/boy doubleheader. Coverage on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com begins at 5:45 p.m. The girls play at six o’clock with the boys to follow.
