With the early arrival of winter in Iowa, plans were forced to change for a couple of projects for the Jefferson Municipal Pool.

Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner says the PVC liner that the City Council had previously approved to be installed by RenoSys will have to wait until next spring.

“They can work in cooler weather but it was getting to the point that we needed to get water in the pool and I was getting nervous about the frost going down and shifting and all that good stuff. So when I called and talked to RenoSys I just said, ‘We’ve got to know within the week because we’re getting cold weather.’ They got back to me and said they just weren’t going to be able to do it.”

Lautner notes that RenoSys could get it installed as early as February or March, depending on when everything warmed up and thawed out. She adds that ACCO would need to prep the pool before the liner is installed. The bid the Council approved for the project was over $86,000.

Another project is installing a mesh cover for the pool, which the Council approved for over $30,000. Lautner says Rayner in Des Moines will make the cover, but it won’t be installed until next fall.

Payment for both projects will come out of the city’s general fund.
