Adventure is out there, and the Perry Public Library is hoping to prove it. Starting now, the library is offering what they’re calling Adventure Passes, which will allow patrons to head to two popular Des Moines destinations.

Library Director Mary Murphy says anyone over 18-years-old who has a library card in good standing can check out a pass for two adults and two children to visit the Science Center of Iowa or the Blank Park Zoo. There is no cost, but you can only check out a pass once a year for each destination. When asked what she hopes library patrons get out of the program, Murphy replied, “The sense of adventure! They can check out experiences, along with the books, and the bikes, and the art, and everything else that we have evolved to. We’re more than just books!”

Murphy adds, she’ll let the public know if and when they get more locations for the Adventure Passes, and she has some other creative ideas on how to make use of them. “We’ll see how it’s being used in the next year, trying to get a lot of promotion. We’re (also) going to try to use some of the passes in conjunction with other things like gas cards and maybe some dinner cards, for a family outing as a prize in summer reading.”
