The Greene County Historical Society had a successful 2018.

Executive Director Roger Aegerter says 2,600 people visited the Greene County Historical Museum in Jefferson, which is an increase from the previous year. He believes the increase to be mostly due to the Smithsonian Institute’s Hometown Teams traveling exhibit, which was housed in the museum from August 11th through September 23rd. He notes that 1,400 volunteer hours were given to the museum, with 117 hours dedicated to the traveling exhibit. There were also people from 24 different states and six different countries that stopped into the museum.

The historical society held a monthly program throughout different communities of the county from April through December, with special programs scattered throughout the year. Officers for 2019 include: President David John, Program Chair Margaret Hamilton, Secretary Joyce Ausberger, Treasurer Becki Cunningham and Past-President Dale Hanaman.

The historical society’s main project for 2019 is repairing the drop ceiling of the museum. Aegerter had asked the Greene County Supervisors for $10,000, but noted that he didn’t have a final price for the project yet, since the engineer’s report wasn’t completed. The Supervisors have not acted on the request.
