A stretch of unselfish play has the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers varsity boys basketball team (2-1 overall; 2-0 RRC) on the verge of matching their win total from last season in the middle of December. ADM registered a conference-worst 200 total assists during last year’s 3-19 campaign, including a winless Raccoon River Conference season. The Tigers have assisted on 44 total baskets in three game so far this winter and are averaging 17.5 dimes per game during their recent two wins against Ballard (69-54) and at Winterset (63-48). The Raccoon Valley Radio Network had ADM boys basketball coach Aaron Mager give his thoughts on how well his team was sharing the ball after Friday’s win at Winterset. “We were trying to when they went man-(to-man on defense) of working inside-out,” Mager said, “It was our goal against their zone too, it was just tougher to do with the way they play the passing lanes, they widen their 2-3 out (past the three-point arc) and where (the zone) is exposed is at the high post. Those aren’t the type of shots we’re looking for all the time; we want to get it down low and inside.”

A trio of sophomores are the primary players sharing the sugar for the ADM boys basketball team. Point guard Nate Mueller leads ADM and ranks third in the Raccoon River Conference with 16 assists so far this winter. Forward Dylan Anderson has chipped in nine dimes, and swing player Tate Stine Smith has added seven assists. The ADM basketball teams resume their league season tonight in Adel against the Carlisle Wildcats. Raccoon Valley Radio’s True Country K 107.9 FM will provide live play by play of the varsity doubleheader, starting with pregame comments around 5:30 p.m. and tip-off of the girls game set of 6 p.m.
