Greene County trailed South Hamilton 11-3 after one quarter of girls’ basketball in Jewell on Friday night. The opening quarter proved to be a major factor in the third straight loss to start the season for first year head coach Tyler Westhoff’s Rams as they fell 40-21. In the first three games of the season, the Rams have been outscored in the first eight minutes by a combined 50-11. They trailed 11-0 before Sadie Wilson came off the Rams’ bench and sank a three-pointer with just 38 seconds remaining in quarter number one. Wilson finished with five points.

Greene County was led in scoring by Bailey Cunningham with seven points. The Rams had just seven field goals, but four were from three-point range. Unofficially, Greene County was seven of 47 from the floor and three of four from the foul line.

SH went 15 of 46 from the field unofficially, and seven of 11 shooting free throws. The Hawks were led in scoring by 13 points from Sydney Friest. SH led 24-6 at intermission and 37-10 at the end of the third quarter.

The Rams are 0-1 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play and 0-3 overall. The Hawks are 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in league play.
