acgcToday we conclude our look back at athletic achievements at Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center for 2018 with fall and winter sports.

The ACGC football team finished the 2018 season with a program best 3-6 record under first-year head coach Cody Matthewson. Matthewson led the Chargers to home victories over Nodaway Valley in overtime and West Central Valley. Their other win came in convincing fashion at Clarinda.

Among the storylines from this season include senior Ben Kingery becoming the first 1,000 yard rusher at ACGC. The Chargers also smashed the rushing touchdown record with 16. Kingery led that category as well with seven individually. The increased touchdowns also led to scoring records. The Chargers set a new record for most points scored in a game (38), largest margin of victory (16), and most points per game (14.75). Six ACGC players were named to either the 1st or 2nd All-District Team.

For the second consecutive season, the ACGC volleyball team also advanced to the Class 2A regional semifinals. The Chargers finished with a record of 21-10 for the second straight season and freshman Chloe Largent was near the top of the class in both kills and aces, setting Charger records in the process.

The ACGC cross country team also had another productive season. The girls team, as well as seniors Noah Nelsen and Clay Billheimer, advanced to the state meet in Fort Dodge. Nelsen finished in 4th place individually while junior Kate Crawford recorded another top-ten finish.

The second half of 2018 will end with a promising first half of the winter season with winning records set for both basketball squads.
