acgcAthletic achievements at Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center made an overall improvement in 2018. Here is a look back at some of the high points from the first six months of the year.

In February, Seth Danker qualified for the state wrestling tournament in Des Moines. He punched his ticket to “The Well” by claiming the 2nd and final spot in the 106 pound weight class out of the ACGC home district. Danker was the only Charger to get to Des Moines, and bowed out early after two defeats on day one. Danker is one of the many Charger wrestlers who have a chance to punch their ticket when the calendar turns to 2019.

The spring track and field season featured several record-breaking performances and state qualifiers. The Chargers sent 17 entries total (nine girls and eight boys) to the state meet in May. Out of those 17 entries, three reached inside the top 5. Kate Crawford took two of those top five entries, placing 2nd in the 3000 after leading most of the race, and a fourth place finish in the 1500. The other top-5 placement came for Noah Nelsen, crossing the finish line in 4th in the 3200. Clay Billheimer also became the first Charger to run the 800 in under two minutes, doing so at Drake Stadium.

The first half of 2018 concluded with regular season softball action. The Chargers claimed their first victory against Des Moines Christian with a 7-6 effort in game two of a doubleheader in Urbandale. Makayla Hoing collected a home run in that contest on June 28th.

Tomorrow we’ll look at highlights from the second half of the year at ACGC.
