U.S. Senator Joni Ernst and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig joined U.S. Representative David Young in Stuart Saturday for a train rally.

Republican incumbent Young is running for the state’s third congressional district against Democratic nominee Cindy Axne. Young stopped at the Stuart Depot on his train tour from Des Moines to Council Bluffs on a rainy Saturday. With Election Day fast approaching, Young tells Raccoon Valley Radio why he chose to make this train rally tour, “Well, it’s very unique of course and it kind of brings back the old nostalgia of campaigning and so fortunately this track goes right through our district and we just went through Van Meter my hometown and from Des Moines to Council Bluffs. So stopping, saying thank you, saying hello, trying to do some persuasion as well get the vote out. And that’s what you do, you get in front of the people, you don’t hide when you get in front of the people, and I get in front of anybody and everybody.”

Young referred to the state’s 2.5% unemployment as an economic renaissance, and that Iowans are keeping more of their tax dollars. He also said that the U.S. is a welcoming and sympathetic country but that we must secure our borders, protect the American people and the Constitution.
