The holiday season is here, which means Raccoon Valley Radio’s Caring Christmas Food Drive continues this week.

The Big Red Radio is scheduled to be at four area businesses this week, including in Jefferson two times before Thanksgiving. We will be broadcasting from Hy-Vee Monday afternoon from 3 to 5pm and the again Wednesday afternoon from Fareway, also from 3 to 5pm. Then on Saturday, Big Red Radio will be at two Jefferson locations starting at A&W Family Restaurant from 10:30am to 12:30pm, followed by the Carroll Hydraulics sponsored remote at Fareway in Jefferson from 3-5 p.m. While we are broadcasting, anyone can make monetary or food donations, which will be directly given to the Greene County Action Resource Center.

ARC Site Manager Diane Blackmer says they see a huge increase in need for donations during the holiday season.

“Part of that is due to the fact that children are home on vacations and so if they’re not getting some of their meals at school, that increases the need in their homes. We currently serve between 90 and 100 families in a month, that will probably go up in the next two months. It’s a challenge. We try to provide a week’s worth of groceries to each family unit that comes in.”

When you make a donation during our broadcasts, you will automatically be entered into our $1,000 Christmas Cash Giveaway drawing. There are also boxes at several participating businesses in the listening area where people can submit their names any time. The grand prize winner will be announced on December 20th.
