First year Perry basektball coach Aaron Lyons even had to chuckle at the irony. The former East Greene Hawk will coach his first varsity game tonight against the Greene County Rams in a 7:30 game at the Perry Sports Pavilion. The former East Greene school district is now part of the larger consolidated Greene County school system.
“Yeah, I can’t believe my very first game is against Greene County. Obviously I have so many great memories from my days at East Greene and I have nothing but respect for that school and the job coach Nelson does. It’s such a great rivalry and I am happy to be on the Perry side of it for this game.”
Lyons inherits a young and inexperienced squad for his first varsity coaching stint. Perry lost over 98% of their returning statistics from a year ago due to graduation. Perry went 5-18 last season and finished 3-11 in Raccoon River Conference play.
