City of Perry

We’ve had a few days of snow so far this fall, but not much accumulation as of yet. However, that eventuality is likely not far off, so the Perry Public Works Department would like to remind the public about the City’s snow ordinance.

Public Works Director Jack Butler says the ordinance goes into effect whenever there is half-an-inch or more of accumulation, and it dictates that there cannot be cars parked on City streets. Butler says they work closely with the Perry Police Department on enforcement of the ordinance each winter, though he says they give a little leeway during the first major snow event of the year. At that time, officers will only give warnings and reminders of the ordinance, but after that they will hand out tickets. Additionally, if the snow event is serious enough, they may also tow vehicles off the streets, at the owner’s expense.

Butler says it typically takes his crews around six hours to completely plow the City streets, but he adds that it goes a lot quicker if people are obeying the ordinance. “Typically the first snow, that’s the wake-up to everybody that winter is here and it’s time to pay attention again. But it works good, it’s smooth for us. So hopefully, you know, we can get a little cooperation out of everybody. And we’ll just roll right into it, and we’ll have no hiccups this year and it’ll be good to go!”

Anyone with questions about the snow ordinance is encouraged to reach out to Perry City Hall at 515-465-2481. To hear more from Butler, listen to Thursday’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program at RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
