A former Jefferson and Bagley man who is accused of killing an Iowa State University student will get a new attorney ahead of his jury trial.

According to court documents, District Court Judge Bethany Currie granted 22-year-old Collin Richards’ request for a new attorney. Court documents show that Judge Currie will appoint a new attorney for Richards from the Marshalltown Public Defender’s office.

Richards submitted a written plea of not guilty to a Class A Felony charge for first degree murder for allegedly killing Celia Arozamena. Law enforcement agencies found the victim’s body at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames on Monday, September 17th. Richards, who was homeless, was arrested by authorities after finding evidence near the scene. Richards was booked and remains in the Story County Jail. His jury trial date is slated for April 30, 2019.
