The recent success of the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers varsity football team is filtering its way through the school district’s other sports programs. Part of the reason for ADM’s 5-4 record on the gridiron this fall was the play of seniors Andrew Flora and Nolan Harsh. The pair of returning state-qualifying wrestlers decided to come back to the football field after receiving handwritten notes of support from first-year head coach Garrison Carter. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network recently spoke with ADM head wrestling coach Chris Hatchitt about the achievements made by the Tiger varsity football team. Hatchitt sees football and wrestling as complimentary sports to one another. “Football and wrestling, they are both physical, contact sports,” Hatchitt said, “(They’re) very similar mentalities, very similar in aspects. A tackle in football is a double leg, and those sports go hand in hand.”

Increased numbers helped the Tiger football team to a five-win improvement from the 2017 season. Coach Carter is encouraging all his football athletes to go out for a winter sport, and early projections have the ADM wrestling program with a noticeable increase in participation this winter. The Tigers varsity wrestling team will look to improve on a 7-18 dual record when regular season competition begins on Thursday, November 29, in Huxley in a triangular event versus North Polk and Ballard.
