Main Street Guthrie Center recently received a major boost in funding for a downtown renovation project.

Main Street Iowa awarded a 2018 Bricks and Mortar Challenge Grant of $70,000 for the Guthrie Activity Center renovation project. The Center committee raised the $107,000 in matching funds, and Main Street Guthrie Center Director Dana Buster shares what this renovation entails, “The $70,000 grant will go towards removing the steel off the front and exposing the brick as it used to be. And actually extending the building out a little bit, and adding big tall glass windows and then doing a full interior remodel which has already sort of begun, but we’ll be able to go in full force now that we have this grant.”

Buster mentions the committee raised funds for this project and a previous one to repair the building’s roof through a donation campaign and events. Buster says they hope to get the work completed by late spring 2019.
