Supervisors canvassing votes Tuesday afternoon

One contested local race was so tight, a recount has now been put in process in Greene County.

On Thursday, The Greene County Board of Supervisors met in special session and approved a resolution for the County Auditor’s office to conduct a recount of the County Treasurer’s election results. The resolution came after the Supervisors did the canvass of votes this past Tuesday in which the official results had the Republican candidate Katlynn Gannon-Mechaelsen over Democrat incumbent Donna Lawson by two votes with 2,026 to 2,024 respectively.

Lawson made the request and asked for a hand and a machine recount. Both Lawson and Mechaelsen are allowed to designate representatives on their behalf for the recount. Chris Henning is Lawson’s representative and Sean Sebourn is Mechaelsen’s representative. Henning and Sebourn will choose a third individual and Deputy Auditor Billie Hoskins will also be present during the recount. Hoskins noted on Thursday, the recount could take up to two days to complete and it must be done within 18 days of the canvass date.
