The Greene County Board of Supervisors met in special session Thursday.

The Board approved a resolution for the County Auditor’s office to conduct a recount of the County Treasurer’s election results. Following this past Tuesday’s canvass of votes by the Supervisors, the official results showed a two vote win for Republican candidate Katylnn Gannon-Mechaelsen over Democrat candidate Donna Lawson with 2,026 to 2,024 votes. Lawson then submitted a formal letter to the Supervisors requesting a recount.

Greene County Deputy Auditor Billie Hoskins said the recount must be done within 18 days of the canvass date and the process could take up to two days to complete. Each candidate can select their representative for the recount. Lawson’s representative will be Greene County Democratic Party Chair Chris Henning and Mechaelsen’s representative is Greene County Republican Party Treasurer Sean Sebourn. Henning and Sebourn will then select a third individual to be a part of the process. Hoskins must also be present during the recount.

Lawson has asked for both a hand and machine recount. It was mentioned during the special meeting on Thursday that following the recount, if there is a tie, the Supervisors will draw the winner from a hat.
