Iowa native Matt Whitaker was recently appointed by President Donald Trump to be the acting US Attorney General, following the resignation of former AG Jeff Sessions.

Greene County Attorney-Elect Thomas Laehn says it’s not only an honor for Whitaker, but also for the state of Iowa. Laehn tells Raccoon Valley Radio, Iowa has outstanding law schools and the state has been a model for law legislation.

“If you look at the history of the law in Iowa, we have always been at the forefront of the law. Oftentimes changes that were brought about under our state constitution (created) anticipated, subsequent developments at the federal level. We’ve really been a model for the country throughout our existence as a state.”

Whitaker, a former US attorney in Des Moines, will oversee the US Justice Department and advise the President.
