Dallas Vote

The results are now official in Dallas County for last week’s general election, following the canvass of the vote by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

County Auditor Julia Helm confirmed that there was a record voter turnout for a midterm election, with around 42,000 votes cast, representing around 68% of eligible voters in the County. Specifically in Perry, there were around 2,200 voters who showed up to the polls, which was only 300 fewer than there was in the 2016 presidential election and considerably more than there was for the 2014 midterm. In general, the canvass showed mostly universal support for the candidates that ended up winning in the County, even if that candidate didn’t actually win the seat.

The notable exception was Perry, where the majority in each of the three precincts supported the Democratic nominees on the ballot. A few individual precincts among the cities of the metro also leaned that way, but there was no consensus like there was in Perry. Conversely, most cities in the County, such as Adel, supported the Republican candidates, which led to many of those candidates winning their respective races. That includes the County Attorney race, where 20-year incumbent Democrat Wayne Reisetter was unseated by the Republican challenger Chuck Sinnard, who received 52% of the votes.

Helm told Raccoon Valley Radio that there were no big issues with the election in Dallas County, and none of the elected winners changed following the receipt of all absentee and provisional ballots. To see full official results from the election, click the link below.
