acgcYesterday we featured the season statistics for the ACGC football team on the offensive side of the ball. Today we look at the defensive highlights.

The Chargers set a new record for interceptions in a season with seven. Seniors Easton Benson and Avery Wheatley caught two picks each for the gold and black, while classmates Ben Kingery and Dylan Soper and junior Bryce Littler each had one. The team also set a new sack record with 16.5, up 6.5 from their ten sack performance last season. Leading the way individually in that category was sophomore Lucas Marsh with 4.5. He also set the single-game record with three coming in the win over Clarinda.

In terms of general tackling, Kingery lead the team in total tackles with 54.5, while classmates Gabe Rowley and Wheatley totaled 39 and 31.5 respectively to round out the top three. Marsh lead the team in tackles for loss with ten, followed by Kingery with nine and sophomore Gage Butler with 7.5.

Despite allowing nearly 31 points per game this season, the Chargers have clipped that stat down by two touchdowns since their 45 PPG opening season in 2016. ACGC finished the regular season at 3-6.
