An hour road trip awaits the West Central Valley Wildcats varsity volleyball team tonight (7-12 overall). The Wildcats travel to Avoca for a Class 2A Region 3 opening round match against the AHSTW Vikings (25-10 overall). The two teams haven’t met during the regular season this fall. West Central Valley closed their conference season last Tuesday with a road victory over newcomer Pleasantville in four sets (21-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19). Wildcat head volleyball coach John Jones joined the Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page Monday to promote his team’s postseason opener tonight with the Vikings. “They’d played a couple of teams that we’ve played and their records pretty good,” Jones said, “If we can play without making a lot of errors, I think we have a chance (to win), and I’ve told (the girls) that.”

The AHSTW Vikings post a 3-1 record against West Central Activites Conference schools this season, winning two of their three matches versus the Panorama Panthers. The Vikings also topped Earlham in tournament play in late August. The winner of tonight’s match advances to next Monday’s regional quarterfinal match against the Treynor Cardinals. The Class 2A Region 3 opener between West Central Valley and AHSTW will serve at 7 p.m. in Avoca.
