Rain or no rain, it appears the annual West Central Activities Conference cross country meet will take place tomorrow at the Lake Panorama Par 3 Golf Course in Panora. The annual race hosted by Panorama Community Schools features solid competition in both the boys and girls high school fields. West Central Valley head cross country coach Dave Hammond joined the Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page Monday night to promote the annual WCAC Cross Country Meet. He says the competition at the meet will be stiff, especially in the boys’ race. “If you follow cross country and look at the ratings, you can see our conference is probably the toughest cross country conference in the state of Iowa I think,” Hammond said, “We’ll have No. 1 Madrid who’ll have five top runners, and AC/GC will be up there, Ogden has a very good team. It’ll be a really tough event.”

Among the ranked squads competing in the boys’ race includes Class 1A No. 1 Madrid, Class 1A No. 9 Earlham, Class 1A No. 13 AC/GC, and Class 2A No. 13 Des Moines Christian. The Panorama girls cross country team is the only WCAC school ranked in this week’s poll as Class 2A’s No. 3 squad. The top 10 individual finishers in each race will make up the WCAC all-conference teams. The first high school races begin at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Lake Panorama Par 3 Golf Course.
