acgcThe ACGC volleyball team traveled to Neola Thursday night for a ticket to the Class 2A Region 4 Final. Unfortunately for the Chargers, the ticket belongs to another team in gold and black. The Tri-Center Trojans used homefield advantage and tenacious teamwork to sweep ACGC: 25-17, 25-17, 25-11.

Tri-Center played impeccable defense, uncovering 68 digs in the match. A trio of seniors also slammed 39 of the team’s 46 kills, led by Olivia Maasen’s 17. Despite the offensive and defensive numbers, the Trojans didn’t record a single block on ACGC’s attack attempts.

ACGC senior Genevieve Hoover was outstanding defensively in her final volleyball game for the Chargers, grabbing 14 digs to keep hopes alive. Freshman Chloe Largent led the offensive efforts with 11 kills, while senior Jadeyn Carrick also knocked in six kills for the gold and black. Senior Savana Fuller also tapped four blocks in the season-ending defeat.

The Chargers finish with a record of 21-10 and a defeat in the regional semifinals for the second straight year. Four seniors put on their Charger uniform for the final time, including Carrick, Hoover, Fuller, and Sara Pauley. The Trojans will meet BCLUW in the Region 4 Final in Earlham on Tuesday. The only West Central Activities Conference school left standing is Des Moines Christian, who advanced to the Class 3A Region 5 Final in Van Horne against Mount Vernon.
