It appears offensive styles will be quite different when Greene County travels to Red Oak on Friday to face the Tigers in a Class 2A District 9 football game. The Rams are 6-1 overall while the Tigers are 4-3. Game time at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds on the north side of town along Highway 59 is 7 p.m. with coverage at 6 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

The Tigers run the ball- a LOT, with 85% of their plays from scrimmage this season being running plays. A trio of backs have split the carries, and the yards, nearly evenly. Codie Bentley has 114 carries for 622 yards, while Carter Maynes has 98 carries and 609, and Justin McCunn is at 595 yards on 97 carries.

Red Oak quarterbacks have attempted just 60 passes in seven games and completed 21 for 281 yards, three touchdowns, and five interceptions.

On the other hand, Coach Mitch Moore’s Rams have more balance between the run and the pass. Brent Riley has thrown all but two of the 183 Greene County pass attempts. The junior has totaled 1,398 yards, 15 passing TDs, and eight interceptions.

The top two runners are senior Clint Dennhardt and junior Colby Kafer. Dennhardt saw quite a bit of duty last week at QB, although he’s played mainly running back this season. The senior has 616 rushing yards and 10 TDs, while Kafer, a junior, has 586 yards on the ground and eight rushing touchdowns. The Rams average 394 yards of offense per game with 202 through the air and 192 on the ground.
