City of Perry

The City of Perry has officially rolled out a free program for residents, which should help people with their big clean-up or home improvement projects.

The new free residential dumpster sharing program was recently approved by the Perry City Council, and people can now use a dumpster for a full week once a year. At a resident’s request, the City will provide a 4-cubic-yard dumpster. It may be used to throw away household items, junk, garbage, small furniture, and building materials. Heavy items, such as roofing shingles or drywall are acceptable, but they can only fill up to half of the container. Unacceptable items include: toxic, hazardous, or flammable materials; pesticides, herbicides, and solvents; gasoline and motor oil; paints, batteries, tires, and concrete; appliances, televisions, and computer monitors; and yard waste. The resident is responsible for any landfill fees if those items are contained in the load.

Rental of the dumpster is otherwise free, and can be done by contacting Perry City staff. An agreement must be signed and on file prior to the delivery of the dumpster. The program is only available for residential garbage customers with accounts in good standing. For additional rules and regulations, reach out to Perry City Hall at 515-465-2481.
