Tomorrow is recognized as the “Day of Unity” in honor of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

ACCESS Domestic Violence Service Coordinator for Boone and Greene Counties Alicia VanCannon says they are partnering with Greene County High School teacher Lisa Garnett in support of victims of domestic violence standing together to create unity. VanCannon notes that Garnett’s classes made safety pins with a green bead followed by purple beads in recognition of Greene County’s “Color Greene Purple Day” tomorrow. Garnett will take photos of students wearing the beads and they are also selling t-shirts. VanCannon adds that the students are doing a donation drive as well.

“The Greene County Coalition Against Domestic Violence is collecting toiletry donations to be donated to ACCESS so that we can in turn give those to crime victims. When people are relocating or even fleeing for however long it’s going to take, they need full size shampoo, conditioner, deodorants and that kind of stuff.”

VanCannon points out another way that Greene County is showing “unity” is with law enforcement attaching purple ribbons to their patrol vehicles for the entire month.
