Greene County School Board 10_17The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.

Under old business, the Board approved to terminate the academic and athletic sharing agreement with Paton-Churdan School District. The sub-committees for both boards will negotiate with the goal to reach a new agreement by December 10th for the 2019-2020 school year. Also under old business, the Board approved a resolution to hold a public hearing at their November meeting on extending the instructional support levy.

During committee reports, Dr. Steve Karber gave an update on the school building project. He said OPN Architects reported a ten-percent increase in the overall budget, due mostly to increased electrical costs. He mentioned fundraising may have to happen to complete the project the way they want to have it done.

The Board then approved five early graduation requests, two fundraising requests, a drug and alcohol testing consortium service agreement with Medical Enterprises for random drug testing for school bus drivers, a $12,350 proposal for design services from Storey Kenworthy on the interior items for the school building project and designating Sam Harding as the Owner Representative for the project. Additionally, the Board approved a leave of absence request for up to eight weeks for Cassandra Bardole and to have her salary reduced to a substitute’s salary and benefits during that time, along with a land agreement to be included in the Greene County Beaver Creek Wind Farm Urban Renewal Area.

Finally, the Board reviewed this year’s certified enrollment report. On October 1st, the certified enrollment showed that the district lost about 29 students compared to last year’s enrollment. The meeting ended in a closed session for a superintendent evaluation.
