Fans of throwing the football should like the game in Jefferson this Friday night. A district title and playoff implications will be on the line at Linduska Field when OABCIG (Ida Grove) visits the Greene Country Rams. Both teams are 7-1 overall and 3-1 in Class 2A District 8 heading into the regular season finale, and both like to throw the football. One of the differences is the Falcons REALLY like throwing it, to the point where they usually have senior quarterback Kaden Ladwig in the backfield, and that’s it!

Ladwig has passed for 2,377 yards in eight games, and that’s 521 yards more than any other 2A quarterback in the state. He’s also their leading rusher at less than 300 yards for the season. OABCIG averages 359 yards of offense per game, with 297 of that total coming through the air Ludwig has completed 605 of his pass attempts (148-247-6) for 25 touchdowns.

The Rams aren’t exactly bashful about putting the ball in the air either. Quarterback Brent Riley is fourth among 2A QBs in passing yards with 1,672. He’s 96-196-8 with 17 touchdown passes.

Expect the ball the be in the air and the game to take a while on Friday night. If OABCIG wins they will win the district title. If the Rams win, they will have an excellent shot at making the 2A playoffs as an at-large qualifier. Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) is also 4-1 in the district and the Knights play 0-8 Shenandoah. Kuemper would win the district title if they beat the Mustangs and Greene County beats OABCIG. The one loss this season for the Rams is at Carroll vs. Kuemper, while the only Falcons’ loss is at Red Oak. Last Friday, the Rams won 35-14 at Red Oak, and OABCIG won 47-19 in Carroll vs. Kuemper Catholic.

Greene County remained at number 12 in the 2A RPI released on Oct. 15.

Friday’s game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage starts at 6 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.
