According to a press release from the United States Postal Service, due to safety concerns, the decision was made to “emergency suspend” all postal services at the Scranton Post Office. The press release states that “in a cautious effort to protect the safety of our customers and employees, the Scranton Post Office will remain closed until repairs are completed.” The release didn’t mention what kind of repairs were needed to be made.

Retails services have been temporarily relocated to the Jefferson Post Office. Scranton customers may get their notice-left items from the Jefferson location Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm with a valid photo ID. Temporary Cluster Box Units for Post Office Box deliveries have been installed at Scranton City Hall. Post Office Box customers can pick up their mail and keys for their new box at the Scranton Post Office only on Friday, October 26th. After that date, mail and keys will be available at the Jefferson Post Office.

The Scranton Post Office is a leased facility and the landlord has been notified of the situation. It is unclear as it when services will resume at the Scranton location. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
