acgcThe ACGC volleyball team showed they deserved the home team designation Monday night as they swept the Ogden Bulldogs in the Class 2A Region 4 Quarterfinals: 25-19, 25-13, 25-9.

Junior Olivia Laabs and freshman Chloe Largent once again led the way for the gold and black. Laabs led the team in kills with ten while Largent had nine kills and nine digs. Laabs also added two aces for the Chargers, who won the match in less than an hour. While the first set was close, the Chargers used a 9-0 run on senior Jadeyn Carrick’s serve in the final set to seal the semifinal spot.

Carrick was limited during the game due to an ankle injury that was aggravated in the Cumberland-Anita-Massena tournament earlier this month. ACGC head coach Trevor Irwin used nine different players in the rotation, and says it didn’t seem to hinder the offense. “The girls really know our rotation very well. They know the position. They know everything about it, so I was very confident. I knew that we weren’t going to skip a beat once we had girls going in different positions and that came true.”

The Chargers will head to Neola on Thursday to clash with #7 and Region 4 top seed Tri-Center. The Trojans dispatched the Underwood Eagles in three sets on Monday to advance to the semifinals. Irwin talks about the upcoming matchup. “I’m glad that we really get a solid two days of practice to really try to fine tune some specific things. We’ll be ready to go.”

The Chargers have not made it past the semifinal round the previous two years. First serve for the semifinal begins at around 7pm from Tri-Center High School in Neola.
