Fans of rugby are encouraged to visit Adel’s Island Park this evening. The Adel Rugby Club is inviting the community out to their first home girls tournament tonight. Club coach Jess Pfrimmer spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio over the weekend that the Adel Rugby Club is one of nine high school clubs in the area that plays the seven on seven version of the sport. Each game lasts 15 minutes with seven-minute halves and a one-minute halftime. Pfrimmer shares the sport has some similarities to American football. “Rugby is close enough to football that most spectators will be able to follow the game but different enough that they’ll see a difference.” Pfrimmer said, “It (has) a lot more action than football would normally be. Football they have a play and then there’s a pause to reset everything. Rugby there is no stopping.

Pfrimmer adds tonight is the first home contest for the girls of the Adel Rugby Club since their inception last fall. The cost of the event is five dollars for adults and three dollars for students. The first match starts at 7 p.m. The Adel Rugby Club hosts Ankeny at 8:20 p.m. and Indianola at 10 p.m. from Island Park in Adel.
