The non-district portion of the Greene County High School football schedule is over and the Rams are 4-0. The latest victory took place in Gilbert on Friday night when Coach Mitch Moore’s Rams were 46-7 winners over the Gilbert Tigers (1-3) on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

In the four wins, Greene County has outscored the opposition 166-23. The Rams rolled up 494 yards at Gilbert, while holding the Tigers to just 162. There was great balance between the run and pass for Greene County on Friday night, with 252 rushing yards and 242 more through the air. The Rams averaged almost seven yards per offensive play, while limiting the Tigers to just 3.24 yards per play. On the ground, the totals were even more impressive with Gilbert gaining on 36 yards on 24 rushes. None of the four Greene County opponents have run the ball effectively. The four non-district teams the Rams played have a combined 3-13 record, a far cry from the last two seasons playing in Class 3A and facing one of the more difficult schedules in that class. The result was back-to-back 1-8 records.

The seven Greene County touchdowns at Gilbert came in a variety of ways. Junior Tyler Teeples fell on the ball in the end zone following a Gilbert muffed punt. Junior Carter Morton had two receiving touchdowns, while senior Clint Dennhardt had one receiving and one running. Junior Colby Kafer ran for both his scores. Junior quarterback Brent Riley was 21-38-1 passing for 242 yards, and he’s thrown 11 TD passes in four games.

This Friday means just the second home game of the season for the Rams as they host the 0-4 Shenandoah Mustangs at Linduska Field in Jefferson. Coverage starts at 6 p.m. on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with kickoff at 7 p.m. The final five games of the season are Class 2A District 9 contests.
