Greene County is 4-0, top 10 ranked in Class 2A, and sits at number seven in the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s RPI (Ratings Percentage Index). Coach Mitch Moore’s Rams meet 0-4 Shenandoah on Friday night at Linduska Field in Jefferson to open 2A District 9 play. The last five games of the regular season determine the district champion and automatic qualifier for the playoffs. The RPI determines which teams go to the postseason without winning their district.

On paper, Greene County is favored by nearly every statistic out there. The Rams average 40 points per game while giving up just six on average. The Mustangs average just nine points while allowing 34. Greene County’s defense racks up an impressive number of tackles for loss each contest, and the stats go on and on.

Games are played on not paper, and Coach Moore and his staff are preparing the team with a focus on starting district play with a victory, regardless of the opponent. Kickoff Friday night and for the rest of the season is at 7 p.m. with football coverage starting at 6 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
