Jack Hatch (far left) addresses the Perry community on behalf of Fred Hubbell at the Perry Golf and Country Club Saturday evening

It wasn’t the event the Perry Area Democrats had planned, but on Saturday evening attendees were able to learn more about gubernatorial candidate Fred Hubbell and the Democratic Party strategy leading up to the November general election.

Former State Senator and 2014 candidate for governor Jack Hatch filled in for Hubbell, who had to reschedule his event in Perry for personal reasons. In spite of the potential governor not being there, the event was still well attended by the community. Hatch talked about Hubbell and what he has planned if elected, as well as how he’s answering attacks from the other side of the ticket. Hatch also discussed hot topics such as the privatization of Medicaid, the mental health crisis in the state, and the recent tax reform bill. There was also a short question and answer session.

Hubbell plans to visit Perry some time before November 6th, but nothing concrete has been decided at this time. He’s running against incumbent Republican Governor Kim Reynolds and fellow challenger, Libertarian Jake Porter. The Perry Area Democrats also remind the public they are holding a Grand Opening event tomorrow to unveil their new downtown offices. The event will run from 3-6 p.m. at 1220 Willis Avenue, and several local Democratic candidates will be in attendance.
