With September being National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Greene County High School football team is partnering with a local business for an effort to bring positivity.

Head football coach and Activities Director Mitch Moore says Teresa Hoyle with Home State Bank came to him about doing a Play-Doh Drive to give kids who are undergoing cancer treatments at Blank Children’s Hospital Play-Doh. He encourages everyone to bring the childhood favorite crafting material to tomorrow night’s home district opener against Shenandoah at 7pm.

“Really it’s just an opportunity for us to give back to those kids that are suffering from cancer and this terrible disease. And this is something that’s devastated our community recently and it’s something that will continue to affect everybody (and) all children around. So we thought it would be a way for us to give back and for us to help out with this awareness and we feel obligated to do so. So we’re glad that we can.”

Moore points out that the football program recently lost one of its young players to cancer.

“With Landon Martin, obviously he’s an honorary captain of ours for the entire season. And our kids, and our team, and our coaching staff we’re very connected to him in a number of different avenues. And there are some people in our community that have been affected by this as well.”

Moore hopes to see a large turnout tomorrow night with lots of Play-Doh donations, and watch the Rams continue their undefeated season.
