It’s been 16 months since the death of 16-year-old Sabrina Ray of Perry, and finally her remains will be put to rest. Before that happens, though, the public is invited to a service to honor her.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at the Earlham Church of Christ this Sunday from 2:30-4:30 p.m., with a formal service at 4:30. Sabrina’s cremated remains had been in the care of Hastings Funeral Home in Perry for more than a year as the Department of Health and Human Services ruled on who had the rights to them. Her remains were eventually given to her biological family, who will hold a private ceremony at her final resting place. The public is welcome to attend the celebration of life ceremony, and the family also offers personal invitations to all first responders and law enforcement officials.

Sabrina was found dead on May 12, 2017 at the home of her adopted parents, Marc and Misty Ray, having suffered from severe malnutrition. The Rays will be tried on February 4, 2019 in Woodbury County for their involvement in the teen’s death.
