2018 Light Up the Knight 1

Saturday evening, St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Perry hosted their annual “Light Up the Knight” event at Dewey Field.

Organizer Jody Lutterman said the event is a yearly celebration for the fundraising efforts by the students over a three-week period prior to the event. It also serves as an additional source of money, which will be used throughout the year for things such as field trips, teacher supplies, and an end-of-year pizza party. Lutterman says they came into the event with around $4,000 raised by the students, and she estimated that they probably finished with close to $6,000. She was happy with how the event went, adding that it was much easier to operate this year. “I must say, the Dewey Field renovation has been awesome, because everything is so close together. And I found myself just standing around, and other years I was running all over the place and running to one gate and one table. Everything is so close together (now), and it went really, really well. So that has been great, and the turnout has been really good too!”

Lutterman wasn’t sure just how many attendees they had this year, but she does know she was happy with how many people showed up. Most importantly, though, she says all the kids seemed to be having a great time, particularly with the glow items and inflatables. Other activities included: a dunk tank featuring new Principal Kandice Roethler and two teachers; “Plinko,” where the prize was a no uniform day pass; the glow laps around the track; and the release of the lighted lanterns.

Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio was also on hand once again this year. We played music and provided public address services.
