A former multisport athlete at Adel-Desoto-Minburn Community Schools has picked up a second sport in her sophomore year at Grand View University. Sydney Bertman, a 2017 ADM graduate, originally joined the Vikings athletic program as a women’s basketball recruit last school year. Bertman, who played in 27 basketball games as a true freshman last winter, joined Grand View’s Women’s Soccer program this fall. Seven games into her collegiate soccer career and Bertman’s recorded a team-best three goals for the Lady Vikings. As a senior, Bertman ranked second on the ADM varsity soccer team with 17 goals scored. She helped lead the Tigers to an 18-2 record and finished as a semifinalist in the Class 2A state tournament. Bertman scored Grand View’s only goal in their latest match Tuesday, falling 2-1 to Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids. The loss dropped Grand View Women’s soccer’s overall record to 2-5. The Lady Vikings will host MidAmerica Nazarene University tomorrow at the James Cownie Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 4:30 pm following the men’s match at 2 pm.
