Greene County’s high school football team is 3-0 to start a season for the first time in the seven seasons the Rams have played as Greene County. Coach Mitch Moore’s team broke into at least a couple of Class 2A top 10 polls this week in the number 10 spot. Tonight figures to be the toughest challenge to date as Greene County travels to Gilbert to take on a 1-2 Tigers team that has clearly played stiffer competition in the first three weeks of the season.

Gilbert is 1-2, but their opponents are a combined 5-4 and that list includes Webster City and Boone, a pair of teams that handled the Rams last season when Greene County was a 3A program. The schedule is quite a bit different with the Rams in 2A this year and next, and so far the three Greene County opponents have a combined 1-8 mark. Gilbert is 1-0 at home with the victory by two points over Roland-Story (Story City). The Tigers nipped the Rams 37-31 late in game a year ago, also in Gilbert, in a contest that was halted with less than four minutes to play by lightening.

Coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Tonight’s game is the final non-district contest of the season with district play starting next Friday night.
